About me

Asya Chardymskaya was born on August 2, 1982 in Stavropol,  Russia. Watercolor artist and fine arts educator. She graduated from the Russian Department of the History and Philology Department at Yelabuga State Pedagogical University (YSPU) in Tatarstan in 2004. She received her second additional education at the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 2022.  The journey of artistic development began early, during the children's art school. In the course of her life she has been integrating and combining her skills and knowledge from different humanitarian fields. She continues to refine her skills by taking private lessons in artists’ studios. Since 2002, she has worked as a teacher of art and art history for children.

Her primary medium is watercolor and she prefers to work in plein air. Her focus includes urban landscapes, park ensembles, and everyday observations of ordinary life. Currently resides and works in Columbus, Ohio. A member of Central Ohio Watercolor Society since October of 2023. Since 2023 takes part in the meetings and  projects of Urban Sketchers Columbus.

Artist statement

My artistic practice involves daily plein air painting, sketching, and then completing projects in my studio. I also keep a small travel journal, highlighting the natural beauty around me, as well as images depicting various urban scenes, water movement, and light play. I aim to observe and capture the world around me in a classical and romantic manner. My inspiration is drawn from the 19th century Russian Realist artists,  Impressionistic use of air space, Romanticism's lyricism, and Andrew Wyeth’s mystical realism.

Capturing the essence of my local surroundings is of particular importance and value to me. My primary artistic focus concentrates on modern interpretations of veduta with an incorporation of the natural landscape, historical park ensembles, and the world of flora and fauna.
