Urban Landscapes
A series of plein air works  “Saint Petersburg”

“Urban Landscape” is a series of urban landscapes in which the city is seen as an independent, living, changing organism. My work follows the modernist tradition, whereby my personal and subjective perception and experience are not separate from the city's image. Through my memories and stories, I am connected to every corner of these cityscapes. The narration and atmosphere are influenced by the seasonal changes, personal experiences in a specific location, and the urban dynamics and architecture. I explore various aspects of the city, including its architectural elements, construction patterns, and street layout, to capture its unique identity and character.

At the project's inception, I focused on landscapes of St. Petersburg, Russia, which is an important city in my personal history as it is where I studied and established myself as an artist. However, the current project centers on the city of Columbus, Ohio. It includes about 20 works, 4 of which are in private collections. Some of the paintings were executed in oil since working on plein air watercolors during winter is limited.
